Celebrating Canadian design

By Eunice Olumide

Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) curated a profound “Celebration of Canadian Design” which invited the audience to go further than solely consuming – instead becoming part of the lives of both the designer and the garments that they had produced.

Designs by Alan Anderson

Design talent included the illustrious Alan Anderson, who specialises in couture jewellery pieces that bring elegant fantasy into reality. His attention to detail and meticulous skill have seen his work adorned by A-list celebrities including Drew Barrymore, Viola Davis and the late Elizabeth Taylor.

David Dixon

David Dixon’s special occasion wear, available worldwide and a favourite of Katie Holmes and Jennifer Love Hewitt, imbued a playful use of colour and texture influenced by pop culture, with an effervescent, rare style that translates directly from the runway to your wardrobe.

If you are looking for a specialist artisan, Hania Kuzbari’s sustainable luxury pieces include rare gems, sapphires and diamonds perfect for any occasion.

Msichana Inc is the brainchild of Lorna Mutegyeki, handmade by all-female artisans in Africa and focusing on upcycling and transforming the life of the garment.

Studio Lorem Ipsum are first in line when it comes to elegant, contemporary design that puts the environment at the forefront of production, designing in cashmere and wool to create low carbon fashion that still keeps you looking fabulous.

For those of us looking for something romantically chic, then Shelli Oh is a must-have in your wardrobe. A classic amalgam of finesse to tantalise your imagination and make you fall in love all over again.

Finally, much like the name of the brand, Vandal fuses the energy of the street with a vibrancy and vision that allows the wearer to reimagine their identity.
