To celebrate the FIFA World Cup, French milliner and artist Alexandre Barthet – heir to the legendary Maison Barthet – has unveiled a new creation dedicated to Scotland
Inspired by Scotland’s rich textile heritage and football culture, the look reinterprets tartan through the language of contemporary haute couture.

Maison Barthet’s Scotland design
The model wears the official Scotland football jersey, paired with a lightweight tartan ensemble. The centrepiece is a sculptural, handcrafted, cobalt-blue blown-glass hat, inspired by the elegance of traditional millinery while pushing it into the realm of wearable art. Richly adorned with hand-set, jewel-like embellishments, the hat is traversed by a traditional milliner’s pin, finished with a delicate blown-glass football—an emblem linking craftsmanship, fashion and the passion for the beautiful game.

Entirely conceived as an artistic fashion photograph, the image is part of Alexandre Barthet’s ongoing World Cup Collection, a series in which each qualified nation is interpreted through a unique couture silhouette inspired by its identity, culture and football tradition.
Maison Barthet has created hats for some of the greatest names in fashion and cinema, including Karl Lagerfeld, Chloé, Sonia Rykiel, Courrèges, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren and Catherine Deneuve. Today, Alexandre Barthet continues this legacy through contemporary creations combining French craftsmanship with artistic innovation.
