Renowned for its invaluable support services and world-class research, the Beatson Cancer Charity has launched ‘Yellow Yogis’ – set to be one of the largest indoor yoga sessions in the UK 

Led by The Kilted Yogi and presenter Jenny Powell, the new fundraising initiative will bring thousands of people together at Glasgow’s SEC on 13th September. The session will be accessible to all levels and abilities, and for the £35 entry fee participants will receive a Yellow Yogi mat, entry to the one-hour class, and an array of activities encouraging fun, camaraderie and mindfulness. 

The aim is to raise £250,000 for Beatson Cancer Charity with proceeds going directly to the Wellbeing Centre, a calm space within The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre where patients and families can relax, socialise, and access supportive activities during their treatment. 

The yoga session will be led by Finlay Wilson, known as The Kilted Yogi, whose approach blends expert instruction with humour and accessibility. A senior Yoga Alliance teacher and author, Finlay has built an international following by making yoga welcoming to people who may never have tried it before.

Ayley Crawford, 20, a young leukaemia patient who received life-saving care at The Beatson, is preparing to roll out her yoga mat for the event. Ayley was studying nursing at university when she first began feeling unwell during a clinical placement. After several tests and hospital visits, Ayley was asked to return urgently to hospital with a family member. There, she received the news that she had leukaemia.

Soon afterwards, Ayley was referred to The Beatson in Glasgow, where she began treatment and spent time in the Teenage and Young Adult unit. Despite the shock of her diagnosis, she says the warmth and positivity of staff helped her cope during those early days.

Ayley underwent four cycles of chemotherapy and finished treatment in November 2024. However, following a routine biopsy several months later, doctors detected a relapse and she went on to receive a stem cell transplant in July with the help of a 21-year old donor from Australia. After spending around five weeks in hospital recovering from the transplant, Ayley is now rebuilding her strength and hopes to return to university to complete her nursing degree.

As part of that recovery, she wanted to find a way to support the charity that supported her. “I just want to give something back and raise as much awareness as I can. When people hear the word cancer, they sometimes don’t want to talk about it. I’d like that to change. The care I received at The Beatson was incredible, and I’d do anything I can to support them.”
