Duck & Waffle

Generous portions and one of the most stylish ambiences in Edinburgh make Duck & Waffle a must-visit over the Fringe. For a very reasonable £29.50, you can pick from three delicious courses, with a Minuty cocktail or mocktail to sip alongside. We opted for the citrusy-sweet apple and candied pecan salad, followed by a tantalising truffle and burrata ravioli.
The sorbet dessert option (try the apple and raspberry combo) is a refreshing clincher to a tasty experience all round. Lest we forget the cocktail options, concocted with Minuty Prestige Rosé wine. Who wouldn’t enjoy sipping on a fruit-infused sangria for that summery Provence feeling? Other menu highlights include pork sliders on brioche; Philly cheesesteak with caramelised onions, cheddar mornay and French fries and strawberries and cream served on shortbread.
Another special event to look out for at the restaurant this month is ‘Taste of Scotland’ on 29th August – an evening with chef Barry Bryson and The Scottish Malt Whisky Society. There’ll be a hearty five-course menu, paired with a curated whisky experience. Guests will also receive a welcome drink and an original SMWS monogrammed glass.
Fringe menu runs until 31st August, Monday – Friday: 11:30am to 9pm; Sunday: 5pm to 9pm
Coop

The team behind St Stephen St hit, Skua, will host a street food pop-up, Coop on Potterrow in Fettle Cafe throughout the whole of August. Taking inspiration from its popular signature dishes at Skua, the menu will include incredibly moreish fried chicken, smoked East Coast lobster rolls, maneesh zaatar and olive oil, braised Free Company roast lamb, and nabulsi cheese flatbreads with togarashi or seaweed flake fries. The pop-up will also offer Vinca canned wines, Newbarns Brewery beers on tap, and a rotating selection of Skua’s cocktails to toast the festivities.
ASKR

To encourage locals and Fringe visitors to venture outside of the city centre, ASKR, the fine dining venue helmed by chef Dan Ashmore, is reimbursing diners’ tram tickets to Leith to bring the excitement of the Fringe down to the vibrant neighbourhood. Located just steps from The Shore tram stop, the restaurant specialising in coal-fired cooking also recently launched a new a la carte offering to offer diners more choice, incorporating local meat, seafood and produce. The restaurant will be open with extended hours during the festival, operating straight through from 12pm-late Thurs-Sat and 5pm-late on Tues-Wed.
Single and return tram tickets to Leith will both be redeemable when presented on payment, to be discounted from the total bill, active throughout August
